'Idolism' in Contemporary Music
"Michael Jackson will live on through his influence on pop culture" (Robinson 2009)
Michael Jackson was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century (Stevens 2010). Not only was it through his musical career that Jackson was famous for, but it was his image and his impact on individual lives that when we lost Michael, it was a blow, hard to withstand (Robinson 2009). Jackson's impact is incomparable. He was famous for his ability to bring down racial barriers, the many trials in court and most importantly his success in music culture. In doing so he was able to draw in people from differing racial groups, varying ages into his own, unique world of pop culture. As a result Jackson was able to go through many difficulties and still be able to have the most album sales ever by any artist (Robinson 2009)

Jackson Continues to influence the world of music (Olney 2011)
Jackson work is evident in everyday lives as there are countless tribute to Michael Jackson ever since his passing. People continually reliving the life of 'The King of Pop' varying from school performances to street busking performances. Evidently Jackson is seen as an 'idol' of his time having significant impacts within his music and works to listeners of the time and ultimately to those of today. Nowadays Jackson's work is carried out in many instrumental covers, performances and even through the music used in dancing and will continue to be remembered.
Jackson's musical influence is simply unavoidable (stevens 2010)
Jackson's influence is evident in celebrity artists including Justin Timberlake, who writes music in inspiration towards Jackson. Songs including Rock Your Body - Justin Timberlake are similar works to You rock my world - Michael Jackson. Ultimately Jackson motivates future artists through his unique world of pop. He also motivates in different areas including live performance. "He has really motivated me to try and forget myself onstage and just be the music" (Olney 2011). As a result Jackson is looked upon as a famous idol, one in which has great talents and style that people truly admire.

Not only is admiration put upon Jackson. He too was an admirer of classical composers including Debussy and other classical composers (Olney 2011). It was because of this that Jackson's musical career had started with the Jackson 5, a famous band of the 20th century.
Substantially 'idols' do play a major role in contemporary music. As classical composers have influenced the likes of Michael Jackson, the Jackson 5 was born. Creating music and eventually Jackson's famous Pop Culture, he leaves behind a continual impact with his music and thus, Contemporary music born - one in which our world of music is heavily inspired by famous idols and their works.

Good work Jeremy! I really enjoyed reading this post as a big fan of Michael Jackson myself. Indeed, the influence of Michael Jackson on contemporary music and music industry is immeasurable. His music successfully took places in many genres including R&B, pop and soul. His recording styles were quite extraordinary compared to most contemporary musicians as he used a sound recorder to record his own voice of singing, beatboxing and imitating other instruments such as drum and bass lines along with other sounds instead of using the actual instruments. This is evident in most of his songs including “Billie Jean” and “Who is it”.
